What is the deal with SAFE?

TLB Consulting and Coaching Services, LLC recognizes two things:

  • Change is inevitable.

  • Judgment is optional.

And in every business, medical office, home, and school there are people wrestling with change.

The idea of it, the reality of it, the potential for it, even shame carried quietly from what we believe are past failures to change or change well.

This is why, at TLB, we choose to strive to be and recognize other businesses that demonstrate SAFE values:

Security · Alignment · Familiarity · Empowerment

Why? Because we know that when everyone feels SAFE, change happens more smoothly, is more sustainable, and everyone is empowered to move through change experiences without shame, pressure, or posturing.

When we feel SAFE, we all show up as our best selves.

  • We believe everyone needs security.

We believe each person is ultimately the authority of their own life, and we honor that.

Our work is designed to help people feel safe, valued, and included by offering information, perspective, and support.

We do not issue absolutes, directives, shame anyone, or minimize the work of others.

We create environments where people can think clearly, choose freely, and move forward with dignity.

  • We believe that actions should align with values.

We lead with grace, kindness, and restraint - especially in areas where people may be carrying struggles we cannot see. We assume there is more to the story and act accordingly.

We treat all living beings with respect by modeling clear boundaries, expectations, and respect. This includes ourselves.

In a world that often feels binary, we look for the dignity in the middle space.

  • We believe that clarity creates calm.

We make expectations visible, roles understandable, and processes predictable. We work consistently to ensure that all know what to expect, what is expected of each other, what success looks like, and how decisions are made.

We believe that when the environment feels familiar, people can focus on being their best instead of protecting themselves.

  • We believe in resourcing readiness.

We believe that people perform best when they are resourced and supported in ways that are appropriate to their their role and readiness.

We provide the structure, strategies, tools, and support people need to act with confidence and autonomy.

We know that empowerment is not the absence of structure - it is the presence of the right support at the right time.

I approach client conversations differently now I understand what’s going on under the surface. It's true - once you know how to get the data out of drama, it’s like having a superpower.

CM, Organizational Retreat, 2025

Helping people understand human dynamics when change gets hard.

That’s the work.

When things are going well, human behavior is relatively easy to understand.

But under stress — when the stakes are higher, the timeline is tighter, or the change wasn’t chosen — behavior shifts. Logic alone stops working, and progress often stalls.

For more than 25 years, I’ve helped leaders, teams, and individuals navigate those moments. That experience — combined with brain science and real-world application — became the SAFE Approach: a practical, science-backed way to understand what’s really happening beneath the surface and choose more effective responses.

When you understand why people respond the way they do, you gain clarity, reduce friction, and move forward with far less wasted effort — in work and in life.

If you’re curious what that could look like for you or your organization, let’s start a conversation.

You don’t need to have it all figured out to start the conversation.

Most people reach out when something feels unclear, stuck, or harder than it should be.

And that is exactly the right place to begin.

We’ll be in touch for a conversation in order to get you pointed in the direction that works best for you.

Looking forward to talking to you soon.
